Video About Diabetes Awareness

I am planning to get with a group of Film students at Full Sail next week, to produce a diabetes awareness video. I would love to hear your thoughts on the best way to approach the video, so as to make it as effective as possible in educating those who view it on what the disease consists of, what it entails and what can be done about it.

This was an idea I had back in December, when I read an article in the New York Times. Ironically, just yesterday they also published a note indicating that one in eight persons in New York City has diabetes. Very alarming, but even more alarming is the level of ignorance on the part of diabetics, their families and their employers.

I know one common misconception I always hear in my family is that if you're not always thirsty, you're not diabetic. (That one astounds me, because there's a history of diabetes in family, and I guess also denial.)

Good luck with it, it's an important thing I wish more people I know would be screened for.

How about a new take on the myths of diabetes. I can't tell you how many times an aquaintance or new met person pulls me aside to warn me about my wife eating that oreo because of her diabetes. They'll take away the donut and hand her the bagel. Also the others: can't have children, die by 45, can't exert themselves.

If you took it from the concept of a video being viewed by some one newly diagnosed would be neat. They need the facts and hope of a normal life.
